After 18 years at our current location, Concentrix is moving.

When sharing the news that Concentrix Music and Sound Design is relocating, the first question is invariably, "Why?". You certainly don't relocate a complex beast like a music and audio post-production facility without good reason. In our case, here are three of them.

1.  Construction in Charlotte's South End is booming. While that's good for the area and good for the city (not to mention property values), it's not so good in a recording and mixing environment. Noise intrusion has been a minor problem up until now, but is sure to become a major one as larger development projects ensue.

2.  Quite unexpectedly, we received an offer to buy our building.

3.  And this is by far the MOST important reason - it's an opportunity for us to create a facility which will allow us to even better serve our clients.

We've found a new home that we're very excited about. It's in an attractive business neighborhood very close to Uptown Charlotte. There's an overabundance of convenient FREE parking, steps away from the front door. And, it's QUIET!

We've enlisted the services of local architect Brian Gaddis of BEGArchitect (who also happens to be one of my oldest and best friends). Designing and building our control rooms and studios is David Rochester of Technical Audio Services in Nashville. David has been our studio and acoustic design guru for years. (Studio 1 at our current Church Street location is David's creation, as well as the most recent renovations to Control Rooms B and C.) He'll also be in charge of all audio and video wiring systems. Brian and David have some exciting ideas that I'll be telling you about as the project progresses.

At this point, we hope to be fully ensconced in our new surroundings early in 2009.  If you're interested in tracking progress, I'll be updating this blog periodically.

One thing's already been taken care of. We shouldn't experience any down time. We've arranged to continue operations in our present location until construction is complete and we're ready to move in. Things at 'The Big Green Music Machine' shouldn't miss a beat.

Until next time...
